Apple has always been known for making Premium phones with slightly higher prices as compared to the competition. But this time around, Apple nailed it with the lineup. As usual, Apple didn’t cut any corners on its new iPhones, and they know what they are doing with these new iPhones “iPhone 12”.
You are not only getting better performance but a bunch of other upgrades as well. New iPhones come with a unique design, better durability, an OLED screen, and support for 5G connectivity. This time Apple has also introduced its proprietary magnetic connector, and Apple is calling it MagSafe.
Apple usually doesn’t push out a lot of iPhone variants. But this time, they have got everyone covered with four variants depending on the user’s needs. iPhone 12 Variants apple offering are iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. With apple offering these many variants, it might be challenging to understand what makes these devices different from each other. But don’t worry, we have got you covered.
iPhone 12 mini is the smallest Apple have released in like ten years. Then, the standard is more like a spiritual successor to the previous year’s iPhone 11. With Pro version, you step into a more premium category. And last but not least iPhone 12 Pro Max is the most top notched model Apple is offering this year.
Apple prices have always been known not to be friendly, but they have been nailing the costs for the past two years, and this year, Apple did it again, and we love it. iPhone 12 Mini starts at $699, and the iPhone 12 starts at $799 with the base model having 64GB storage. With Pro models, things go a little bit higher. iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max start from $999 and $1099 respectively, with 128GB base storage.
Let’s be honest we have been missing the flat frame and comfortable grip, and our hopes have always been high for a new flat iPhone. If you are an old iPhone user, you may recognize the new design. The new design takes some inspiration from Apple’s own iPhone 4 and 5 lineups. But looking at the iPhone 12 rocking the flat design after all these years is like a breath of fresh air.
iPhone 12 features a sandwich design with front and being glass and sides covered with an aluminum frame. Technically front of the iPhone is not glass but is more like a Glass-Ceramic hybrid with apple branding it as “Ceramic Shield.” The aluminum frame on the sides has a matte finish that gives an elegant look to the new iPhone 12. The back of the iPhone is also made of glass with a glossy finish. The front has much thinner bezels this time around. However, the notch is still there but shorter this time. The notch houses a 12MP selfie camera, the structured-light 3D camera, an earpiece that doubles as a stereo speaker, and the proximity sensor. On the back, we have a dual-camera setup contained within a matte glass square. The left side houses a silent switch, volume rockers, and the sim slot, while on the right, we have a power key.
Apple has up its game by switching from LCD to OLED. It’s comes with a 6.1″ OLED screen with better resolution and thinner bezels than the iPhone 11. Apple is calling its new screen Super Retina XDR OLED. The phone has an impressive screen to body ratio of about 86%.
The peak brightness is1200 nits, making it comfortable to use under any lighting conditions. The resolution has also increased significantly. The screen resolution is 1170 x 2532 with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and 460 PPI density.
The display is protected by apple’s ceramic shield making its toughest iPhone display up to date. The display also features HDR10 support, Dolby Vision support, wide color gamut, and true-tone.
The camera setup is quite similar to the iPhone 11 from last year. The primary camera is a 12MP sensor with large 1.4µm pixels and a 26mm wide lens. But this time, the f/1.8 aperture is now brighter as compared to iPhone 11’s f/1.6 aperture. The primary camera also features Optical Image Stabilization and dual pixel autofocus.
The secondary camera is also a 12MP sensor with much smaller 1.0µm pixels and a 12mm f/2.4 lens for ultrawide photos. The focus on this camera is fixed, and there is no Optical Image Stabilization. The selfie camera features a 12MP sensor with 1.0µm pixels and a 23mm f/2.2 lens. The focus on this camera is also fixed. When taking portrait shots, the Structured-light 3D sensor is used to capture depth info that results in fantastic Selfie Portraits.
The iPhone 12 takes video recording to a whole another level with its all three cameras recording up to 4k at 60 fps with Cinematic Stabilization (EIS and EIS+OIS) and expanded dynamic range. It is also worth noting that Dolby Vision HDR is supported on all three cameras in all 30 FPS modes.
Apple has joined the 5G gang. The features Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem, and that’s why the entire iPhone lineup supports 5G connectivity this year. The iPhone 12 tends to take full advantage of 5G technology like smartly working with your data plan.
For example, if you have an unlimited 5G plan, then it will use 5G more freely as compared to limited plans. If you have an unlimited plan, your iPhone software updates will be downloaded automatically.
When it comes down to performance, the iPhone 12 performs like a champ. iPhone 12 is powered by the world’s first 5nm, A14 Bionic chip that houses 11.8 billion transistors. The transistor count on A14 is 40% more than the A13.
A14 features a Hexa-core processor with 2 Firestorm cores clocking at 3.1GHz and four small Icestorm cores with a base clock speed of 1.8Ghz and boost clocking up to 3.1GHz when needed. This results in a 50% increase in performance than the A13.
There is a new 4-core GPU with a 50% increase in Performance and a 16-core NPU with a 70% increase in AI performance.
The iPhone 12 features 4GB of RAM paired with fast NVMe storage. The Storage options available for iPhone 12 are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
